Write for Educational Leadership

Would you like to publish a manuscript in Educational Leadership? We are looking for high-quality, original submissions that shed light on our monthly themes. We will also consider non-theme related articles for Special Topics.

For a complete list of our 2009–2010 themes, see Upcoming Themes.

Who Reads—and Writes for—Educational Leadership

Educational Leadership has a distinctive niche in the world of education publishing. Our readers are educators from all levels, preK–12, and from many different disciplines and job positions—teachers, principals, superintendents, professors of education, and other leaders in education.

Whereas other publications are primarily written by journalists or by researchers, Educational Leadership is primarily written by practitioners for practitioners. With a circulation of 175,000—and a high pass-along rate—Educational Leadership has great reach and influence among educators. About 75 percent of our articles are unsolicited pieces; we solicit about 25 percent of our articles by special invitation.

ASCD is committed to diversity. We encourage writers from diverse backgrounds to submit articles.

How to Write for Educational Leadership

We look for conversational manuscripts (1,500-2,500 words) that are insightful and helpful to K–12 educators. Articles should contain fresh information, be research-based, and give practical guidance that readers can use to improve practice. Examples from classroom experience are appreciated.

For more information on submitting a manuscript, see our Guidelines for Writers of Educational Leadership.
