Meeting Minutes

As a community of educators advocating sound policies and sharing best practices to achieve the success of each learner, ASCD seeks to form partnerships with organizations that share our values and offer ways to reach further into the lives of educators and citizens in order to make a difference in student learning.

Draft ISLLC Standards

ASCD has been working with the National Policy Board for Educational Administration (NPBEA) and the Council for Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) to revise the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium Standards (ISLLC), which are used by many states in the licensure of new school administrators. Together, we have composed a set of draft standards, the Educational Leadership Policy Standards: ISLLC 2008, that are critical in defining the skills and competencies expected of our educational leaders. Both empirical research and other sources of knowledge were used as the foundation for the proposed standards.

Please note: These draft standards are intended to be policy standards, not program standards for preparing education administration candidates. Revised program standards will be developed next year in the NCATE/ELCC process through the foundation built in these policy standards.

NCATE

ASCD supports the work of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) in ensuring the quality of college and university programs in educational leadership. Through its work with the ELCC (Educational Leadership Constituent Council), ASCD—along with AASA, NAESP, and NASSP—develops standards for educational leadership programs and reviews folios submitted to NCATE for recognition and accreditation.
