ASCD Connected Communities

ASCD connected communities bring together groups of individuals concerned with improving learning and teaching that wish to align with ASCD. Each connected community determines its focus and definition. Communities defined by geographic boundaries must be located in areas where there are no existing ASCD affiliates.

Connected communities are one of the formal structures in which ASCD members provide leadership for self-organized groups within the ASCD community. Rather than employing a standard Association template to administer the groups, connected communities are designed from the educator's perspective to both meet local needs and enrich the overall ASCD community.

Start a Connected Community

To become an ASCD connected community, a group must

  • Determine its focus and community definition.
  • Identify its purpose, goals, and plans and the resources needed to support its organization.
  • Identify the key learning and teaching issues related to its definition.
  • Be located in an area where there is no existing ASCD affiliate, if the connected community is defined by geographic boundaries.
  • Identify activities for group involvement.
  • Develop recruitment strategies.
  • Outline potential contributions to the ASCD community.

There is no minimum requirement for the number of members in a connected community. There is also no specific numerical requirement for growth in ASCD membership; however, growth is expected over time. A connected community cannot consist solely of members of a single organization or institution.

Application

To apply to become an ASCD connected community, download and complete the ASCD Connected Community Application ( 12.5KB).
