About the Awards

AEP Awards
The Distinguished Achievement distinction is reserved for the best educational materials within three categories: curriculum, periodicals, and professional development. An expert panel of educators, editors, designers, and technology specialists evaluate submissions based on efficacy, usability, and overall educational value.

APEX Awards
This award recognizes quality in graphic design, editorial content, and the ability to achieve overall professional communications excellence.

EXCEL Awards
The EXCEL Awards represent the best publishing products of the association industry—the seal of excellence in association publishing. The program judges over 1,100 association publications, including magazines, newsletters, scholarly journals, electronic publications and websites for their editorial quality, design, general excellence, and for other categories. 

Association Media & Publishing, sponsor of the EXCEL Awards, is a national organization founded in 1963 that serves the needs of association publishers, communications professionals, and the media they create.

TRENDS All-Media Contest
This annual competition for associations recognizes the most creative and effective communication vehicles.

2011 APEX Award of Excellence

APEX Award for Publication ExcellenceThe ASCD Express issue titled "Madeline Hunter Was Right!" received a 2011 APEX Award of Excellence in the e-newsletter category.

 

 

2011 EXCEL Bronze Award, E-Newsletter General Excellence

Association Media and PublishingASCD Express won the Association Media & Publishing's EXCEL bronze award in the category of Media Innovation: Electronic Newsletter, General Excellence.

Judges commented that ASCD Express has a "great design, good writing. Each issue is short and sweet. Good use of images. This well-planned and designed e-newsletter is inviting to readers and features intuitive navigation. Cohesive, visually pleasing design. Engaging use of color and graphics. The copy is well-written and has an appropriate tone for the audience."


2011 AEP Distinguished Achievement Award Finalist

2011 AEP Distinguished Achievement Award finalistASCD Express was named as a finalist for the 2011 Distinguished Achievement Award from the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) in the newsletter/e-newsletter category.

Douglas Reeves's column series was also a finalist for the 2011 AEP Distinguished Achievement Award in the editorial column category.

2010 TRENDS All-Media Contest Gold Award Winner, Monthly Newsletter/Communication

2010 TRENDS All-Media Contest Gold AwardASCD Express won the gold award in the monthly newsletter/communication category of the 2010 Association TRENDS All-Media Contest. 

The 2010 competition included more than 470 entries in 27 categories.

 

 

2010 EXCEL Gold Award Winner, General e-Newsletter Excellence

Association Media and PublishingIn 2010, ASCD Express won a gold award for general excellence in the electronic newsletter category in the Association Media & Publishing's 30th Annual EXCEL Awards competition. 

ASCD Express had previously been recognized as a most improved newsletter, and winning gold in 2010 emphasizes our commitment to constant improvement.

2009 Awards

2009 APEX Grand Award Winner

2009 APEX Grand Award WinnerIn 2009, ASCD Express won an APEX Grand Award, the highest recognition in the competition, in the category of nonprofit newsletter.

From almost 4,000 entries in 2099, APEX conferred 1,158 Awards of Excellence and only 100 Grand Awards.

2008 AEP Distinguished Achievement Award Winner, Most Improved E-Newsletter, Adult Learning

2008 AEP Distinguished Achievement AwardIn 2008, ASCD Express received the AEP's Distinguished Achievement Award for most improved e-newsletter. The redesign of the newsletter added a New Voices feature, which gives a chance for new, often younger educators to offer their informed opinion about the issue's theme or related topic. The redesign also increased the focus on ASCD books and added more color, photos, and opinions.
