Ideally, children with learning difficulties should receive the help they need at a very young age. In order to do this, their disabilities need to be diagnosed even earlier. However, many times it does not happen until a child is already lagging behind in school.
This Educational Leadership article looks at the Recognition and Response model that allows parents and educators to discover learning problems in children between the ages of 3 and 5. Many times no one notices problems until 2nd or 3rd grade, so this process helps children stay up to speed in the classroom.
The Recognition and Response model is based on the Response to Intervention model, using a similar, tiered approach to develop a plan to help each child's curriculum and support structure.
