Tips for First-Time Attendees

We're excited that you're planning on joining us in Philadelphia, Pa! 

Now that you've registered for the ASCD Annual Conference and Exhibit Show, you may be wondering what to expect. As a conference attendee, you'll experience informative professional development sessions, amazing exhibits, and the best networking with like-minded educators. 

The tips below will help you have an engaging and enjoyable conference experience.


Before You Go

  • Access You Are Here. Use this multiplatform, interactive web tool to download and plan your conference experience before and during the conference via our website, your mobile device, or at one of the on-site stations around the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

  • Review the on-site services. Learn what services are available to you, from shuttle buses to medical emergency assistance.

  • Check out the City Guide. Our guide will tell you how to get around Philadelphia and suggest places to see and dine.


While You're There

  • Wear your badge every day. The badge is your pass to the conference sessions, shuttle buses, and exhibit hall.

  • Read the Conference Daily newspaper. The paper will be available when you arrive each morning and help you get the most from each day of the conference. It will also provide session updates, like room changes and cancellations.

  • Visit the ASCD Center. You can purchase books, get demos on new products, and manage your ASCD membership account.

  • Attend the first timers session. Presented by staff from ASCD headquarters, this session will furnish you with the knowledge you need to navigate the conference.

    • Friday, March 23, 4:00–5:00 p.m., Pennsylvania Convention Center, First Level, 105
    • Saturday, March 24, 8:30–9:30 a.m., Pennsylvania Convention Center, First Level, 111
  • Visit the ASCD Networking Lounge. Catch up on e-mail or take a few minutes to relax. The lounge, sponsored by Jostens, is located at the top of the second level escalator, outside Exhibit Hall E.

  • Attend the ASCD Annual Meeting and Meet the President-Elect Candidates Forum. Learn more about how ASCD works for you.

    • Annual Meeting: Sunday, March 25, 3:00–4:00 p.m., Pennsylvania Convention Center, First Level, 116.
    • Meet the President-Elect Candidates Forum: Sunday, March 25, 4:15–5:15 p.m., Pennsylvania Convention Center, First Level, 117
  • Attend a Professional Interest Community meeting. Interested in a specific area of education? Our Professional Interest Communities might have a meeting for you.

When You Get Home

  • Watch archived sessions. If you missed a presentation at the conference, you can view select sessions from our online video archives. It's free for all in-person attendees.
