In Her Own Words: A Leadership Reflection
What has led to your development as a leader?
"What do you want to be when you grow up?" is a question we start asking children when they're very young. While "teacher" is a common response to the question, seldom does a child proudly state "principal" as a future chosen profession. As I sought to have an effect on students and learning, the decision to take on the role of instructional leader evolved out of a love of learning and a desire to share my passion for teaching with others.
My progression toward leadership began with successful experiences as a teacher leader and extensive involvement in developing and leading professional development with colleagues and peers. The true catalyst of my development as a leader came from the grooming and modeling of effective leadership by an administrator; in the words of John Quincy Adams, I appreciated the ability as a leader to "inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more."
Having benefited from the vision and insight of a highly effective administrator, I have been inspired to grow and develop as a leader in education and have embraced the challenge to inspire others to grow professionally.
