In Her Own Words: A Leadership Reflection

What has led to your development as a leader?

My development as a leader was forget by a firsthand experience with education inequalities. As a graduate student at a private university, I had the privilege of working as a teacher's assistant. Simultaneously, I was serving two terms in the AmeriCorps in a poverty-stricken part of Dallas. I found it terribly disheartening to see the academic chasms between student that were merely 15 minutes apart in proximity.

It was during that experience that I came into the full understanding that my life's work would be to provide all students with superior education experiences. I work daily to provide my students with three things: hands-on experience with technology, a foundational knowledge of historic trends, and opportunities to apply what their have learned outside the four walls of my classroom.
