Being a Host Has Its Benefits

All sessions require a host. Host duties consist of the following:

  • Picking up the feedback sheets for your session at the ASCD Presenter and Host Check-In Desk. You can do this any time before your session begins.

  • Arriving at your designated session early (at least 15–30 minutes prior). Introduce yourself to the presenter(s) and explain that you are there to help.

  • Checking participants' name badges. You are responsible for making sure that only participants with name badges and a session ticket enter the room. If someone does not have a name badge, direct that person to the ASCD Conference Registration & Information Desk.

  • Collecting session tickets. Most sessions at the 2009 Conference on Teaching and Learning are ticketed, and a ticket is required for admission. You are responsible for making sure that only participants with the correct tickets attend the sessions. If someone does not have a ticket, direct that person to the ASCD Conference Registration & Information Desk.

  • Distributing feedback forms as participants enter the room and requesting that they return completed forms to the presenter(s) at the end of the session. Also, hosts should inform participants that ASCD will e-mail a link for an online evaluation survey one week after the conference is over.

  • Being mindful of the meeting room capacity and reporting any problems to an ASCD staff member.

In return for your assistance, you will receive a voucher that you can use toward registration for any ASCD Professional Development Institute in the 2009–2010 year or the 2010 Conference on Teaching and Learning.

  • Two sessions hosted: $50 voucher

  • Three sessions hosted: $75 voucher

  • Four sessions hosted: $100 voucher

Plus, you'll receive complimentary registration for an ASCD PD Online Course of your choice.
