Conference Highlights and Session Recommendations

Opening General Session: The Science of Extreme Storm Chasing, with Reed Timmer from Discovery Education
Discovery Channel’s Reed Timmer has become famous for his curiosity and drive to understand the science of extreme storms. The meteorologist and star of Discovery Channel’s popular Storm Chasers series shares his experience filming and collecting important real-time data from some of the most powerful tornadoes on record.

Second General Session: The Checklist Manifesto, with Atul Gawande, Harvard Medical School
Harvard professor and best-selling author Atul Gawande argues for establishing a disciplined approach to all procedures, particularly the development and dedicated use of the humble checklist. As educators struggle to balance increasing numbers of mandates, standards, and reform-based assessments, Dr. Gawande prescribes a systematic approach to accomplishing and measuring your primary goals, in school and in life.
