In His Own Words: A Leadership Reflection

What has led to your development as a leader?

The valuable time and experiences that I have shared with colleagues have had the most significant effect on my development as an education leader. I have learned the most, both from successful experiences and from mistakes that have been made, from my colleagues of past and present.

Working collaboratively with fellow administrators, teachers and support staff to do what is best for our students has proven to be my most effective leadership strategy. I often bounce ideas and concepts off a select group of colleagues. This discussion provides opportunities for feedback and alternate ideas to be shared, allowing the original proposal to be strengthened for the best outcome.

One of the greatest benefits to a collaborative approach to education leadership are the relationships and trust that are built over time. These two building blocks of success serve as the foundation of respect and success in any educational community.
