In Her Own Words: A Leadership Reflection
What has led to your development as a leader?
Learning is a social experience based on meaningful interactions with the environment. We learn with and from those around us. Working collaboratively to gather feedback and alternate ideas has provided opportunities to identify the talents from within the community and provide a space for open discussion and controlled risk taking. I believe that my leadership role is a product of all of this.
It has been through the sharing of ideas and networking with talented individuals that I have found myself as a member of a community of teacher leaders. Through brainstorming ideas and experimentation of new strategies and techniques, I now find myself in a position that offers the potential to bring about a transformation in my school and teaching community.
The challenge today is to continue to move forward as a teaching community with clear set goals: to support, engage, and provide guidance, not only for our students, but also for our peers.
As we move closer toward a more 21st century teaching and learning environment, we find ourselves immersed within the pillars of collaboration, innovation, communication, and problem solving. It is by fostering these components that communities grow and allow members to showcase their individual talents while moving toward a common goal. With commitment and flexibility, we bring about long-term transformative change not only to my particular school community, but to the educational profession as well.
