Important Handout Information

ASCD has gone green. All institute handouts will be available in electronic PDF format only. This process will reduce the use of paper and help save our environment.

As part of your registration confirmation, you will receive information via e-mail about how to access session handouts via our website. Handouts are available for download approximately 1–2 weeks prior to the institute and will remain available for four weeks after the institute.

To access your handouts, please go to www.ascd.org/mydownloads.aspx and follow the steps below.

1. Log in with your username and password.
2. Select the institute you will be attending. (Please click on the Registration code associated with your institute. It will begin with "PD").
3. To download a handout file, click on the green arrow next to the file name/Registration code.

4. We have made it possible for you to take notes within the PDF handout. To take advantage of this capability, you have two options:

   Option One—Adobe Acrobat Standard (PC or Mac): If you have Adobe Acrobat Standard or higher, you can type notes and save them using this version of Acrobat.

   1. Prior to the meeting, download the PDF Session Handouts from the ASCD website using your username and password. Save the file to your computer.
   2. During the session, open the Session Handout PDF file with Adobe Acrobat.
   3. Type your notes in the text notes fields. Please keep in mind that not all pages will have text fields available.
   4. Continue working and save your work on a regular basis. Save your work using the File-Save menu item. Note: Your cursor must be outside of the text notes field to save the document. You can save the file with the original file name or save it with a new name that indicates it is the notes version. You may close the file and reopen it at any time to continue taking notes.

   Option Two—Adobe Reader (PC or Mac): If you don't have Adobe Acrobat Standard, you can type notes using Adobe Reader.

   1. Prior to the meeting, download the PDF Session Handouts from the ASCD website using your username and password. You will need Adobe Reader to download the handouts. Mac users will not be able to view or type in the notes fields using the PDF Viewer. Mac users must have Adobe Reader installed.
   
   If you do not have latest version of Adobe Reader on your computer, click the following link to download a free version: http://www.adobe.com/products/reader.html. You may need your administrator to install this for you.
   
   Save each PDF to your computer.
   
   2. During the session, open the Session Handout PDF file with Adobe Reader.
   3. Now follow steps 3–4 under Option One.

   Note for iPad and iPhone Users: You may need a special app to view handouts or take notes. Several apps are available for interactive PDF usage; however, they may require a purchase fee.

Participants registered for ASCD's professional development institutes will only have access to the specific institute for which they are registered.

Meeting rooms may not have wireless access and will have limited electric outlets. Please make sure you download your handouts prior to attending the institute and that your laptop is charged each morning. We encourage you to download the handouts to your laptop.
