About
Bart is a research associate professor at the University of Virginia School of Education, where he founded and ran the nation's first edtech accelerator and venture fund focused on helping companies do efficacy research. While leading this work Bart established a nationwide test bed of K–12 schools and brought together nearly 300 leading researchers, investors, entrepreneurs, and educators for the first-ever EdTech Efficacy Research Academic Symposium, where participants developed a plan for how to build national consensus on the ways in which our schools' implementation environments vary from each other. Bart then founded and ran the nonprofit EdTech Evidence Exchange for several years before merging it into a larger nonprofit. Bart previously spent a decade helping to build and run the world's largest online tutoring company and was the first general manager of the U.S. Department of Defense's online tutoring and homework help service. Bart is a former Master Teacher for the Princeton Review, judge for the XPRIZE Digital Learning Challenge, advisor to UNESCO on its technology in education report, and is currently working on an artificial intelligence education project. Bart is also a former civilian test pilot for NASA research, volunteer pilot for Angel Flight, and chairman of Gifts for the Homeless. He lives in Arlington, VA with his wife and their twin boys.
