Summering With EL
May marks the close of Educational Leadership's 2004–2005 publishing cycle. We'll see you once again in September, when our issue on “The Whole Child” kicks off the 2005–2006 year by exploring how schools can holistically meet their students' needs.
During the summer, look for Educational Leadership online at www.ascd.org/el. We'll be running a series of thoughtful articles on how schools improve. Articles will look at such topics as raising student achievement in low-performing schools, successful literacy models, instructional leadership, goal setting, effective models for school reform, and the repercussions of NCLB in schools. We'll include some special topics as well. As a reminder, all ASCD members have full access to ASCD content online. Log in atwww.ascd.org with your ID number and password.
We will also offer a compilation of the year's most provocative articles, one from each issue. Look for The Best of EL in mid-July.
ASCD and Affiliates Head to the Hill
ASCD has a proud history of influencing learning, teaching, and leadership by providing educators around the world with quality, research-based information on best practice. The education landscape has changed markedly, however, as a result of increased influence on education practice by decision makers in government and business. This trend requires ASCD leadership and members to hone their skills in advocating for education policies that will support implementation of best education practices. ASCD's recently adopted mission statement and goals reflect this enhancement of the Association's work.
At the April 2004 Affiliate Leadership Conference, ASCD organized and trained members for its first ASCD Day on the Hill. In September 2005, ASCD will continue skill building for advocacy at the Leadership for Effective Advocacy and Practice (LEAP) Institute. ASCD leaders will again walk the halls of the U.S. Capitol promoting decision makers' awareness of ASCD as the most reliable source of information about effective education practice and policy.
ASCD Announces Emerging Leaders
ASCD is proud to announce the inaugural members of the ASCD Emerging Leaders Program, which prepares younger educators for ASCD influence and leadership positions. A broad spectrum of current ASCD leaders nominated candidates.
