Nominate an Outstanding Young Educator
Show your appreciation for a remarkable teacher, an innovative principal, or an impressive superintendent by nominating that educator for ASCD's Outstanding Young Educator Award (OYEA). The OYEA nominee is an education professional 40 years old or younger who demonstrates exemplary commitment and makes an exceptional contribution to the education profession. The fall nomination period ends Oct. 15. Fill out the online form atwww.ascd.org/oyea. The winner will be awarded $10,000, among other prizes, and each of the finalists will receive $1,000.
ASCD recently announced two finalists from the spring nomination period: Charles Coleman, the principal of Khowhemun Elementary School in Duncan, British Columbia; and Michael Powell, a 6th grade teacher and science resource coordinator at Patuxent Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Coleman and Powell will compete for the 2005 award, along with the two finalists to be selected in November from the fall nominees. The 2005 winner will be announced at the 2006 ASCD Annual Conference and Exhibit Show, April 1–3, 2006, in Chicago, Illinois.
