Wish you could predict whether the teachers you hire will stay? In a webinar presented by edWeb.net Henry Wellington of Upbeat, a "predictive analytics" group, offers some clues. Using data from recent teacher-attrition research, Wellington shares micro-level research conclusions about what factors in teachers' experience make them more or less likely to stick to their jobs. The webinar's deep-dive analysis of the "predictors" of attrition this meta-research identified—clustered into the four buckets of school climate, instructional leadership opportunities, school resources and practices, and individual characteristics—will be especially instructive to principals or superintendents. That "individual characteristics" bucket includes less abstract things teachers often care about, from the contours of their commute to the amount of "preps" a teacher does. Wellington also shares tools to measure teachers' satisfaction and ways to create a climate that keeps faculty members happy and hanging in.
