About the authors
Linda Torp is the chief education officer for Success Lab, Inc., of Chicago; former director for academic planning, research, and evaluation at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora; and a facilitator for ASCD's Problem-Based Learning Network, PBL Net (Web site:http://www.imsa.edu/team/cpbl/pbln/). Torp has served as director for the Center for Problem-Based Learning and worked as a professional developer for many years in the areas of problem-based learning, integrated curriculum, and literacy. Her work in schools as an educator and consultant spans elementary through graduate levels. Sara Sage is assistant professor of secondary education at Indiana University in South Bend. She has served as a special educator and teacher educator. Sage has conducted PBL research studies and has worked with numerous teachers at the Center for Problem-Based Learning and internationally. She has written several publications related to PBL in both K–12 and teacher education classrooms. Her interests in addition to PBL include professional development for teachers, human development and learning, and constructivist teaching and learning models.
