About the authors
Steve Gardiner, an English and journalism teacher at Billings Senior High School in Billings, Montana, has used sustained silent reading in his classroom for 27 years. He is a National Board Certified Teacher and also is certified as a Master Journalism Educator by the Journalism Education Association. He has published more than 500 articles in newspapers and magazines and has written three books about mountain climbing.
