ALEXANDRIA, VA— ASCD, a mission-driven nonprofit that empowers educators to achieve excellence in learning, teaching, and leading, will launch the ASCD Whole Child Network™ at its Conference on Educational Leadership, which is taking place November 8–10 at National Harbor, Maryland.
The ASCD Whole Child Network is a free-to-join global network of schools that are focused on the same goal: transforming their schools and school communities into ones that put the child at the center. Schools that join the network receive tools designed to help them assess and make changes to better support the whole child approach to education. The process begins with the ASCD Whole Child School Improvement Tool™, an online survey that allows schools to self-assess their practices based on the ASCD Whole Child Tenets and indicators.
“The whole child has been an integral part of ASCD’s mission since 2007, and we are thrilled to launch a project that will help schools and communities ensure that every child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged,” ASCD Interim CEO and Executive Director Ronn Nozoe said.
“The ASCD Whole Child Network is the next evolution of the work that ASCD has been doing for more than a decade to ensure that we’re preparing our students for long-term growth and lifelong success,” ASCD Senior Director of Global Outreach Sean Slade said. “We’ve long known that a good education goes beyond simply preparing our students academically. This network will help educators embed a whole child approach into their ongoing school improvement processes and plan out their own journeys.”
ASCD’s focus on the whole child approach began in 2007 with the development and release of The Learning Compact Redefined: A Call to Action.
The network is designed to work hand-in-hand with the ASCD Activate Professional Learning Library, a tool that gives educators anytime digital access to resources created by education thought leaders, including online courses and classroom videos, as well as access to publications like Educational Leadership® magazine and a rotating selection of ASCD e-books. ASCD Activate isn’t, however, required to use or access the benefits of the ASCD Whole Child Network.
