How does the leadership in your school measure up? Find out by taking the School Culture and Collaborative Leadership Survey.
Have you ever wanted a school culture where everyone feels welcomed and teachers are eager and excited about their lessons? In the book School Culture Rewired: How to Define, Assess, and Transform It, education experts Steve Gruenert and Todd Whitaker assert there’s no one-size-fits-all recipe for ensuring a positive school culture, but there are specific tools school leaders can use to improve their school’s culture and help teachers develop better attitudes, outlooks, and behaviors.
Before implementing strategies to change a school’s culture, it’s important for school leaders to understand the different types of cultures and the interactions among students, teachers, and leaders in different environments. In the following excerpt, Gruenert and Whitaker explain one of the six types of school cultures—the collaborative school culture—and some of the positive outcomes of this type of culture.
