New Online Learning Course

Questioning for Classroom Discussion: Grades K–5

In this new PD Online course from ASCD, you will learn insights that you can use with your students to make classroom discussion a manageable process. First, you'll explore quality questioning practices that drive productive discussion. Then you'll explore research-based discussion skills in three key categories: social, cognitive, and use-of-knowledge. Finally you'll learn how to decide which skills are most appropriate for your students given their ages and developmental levels and the subject you teach. Using this threefold framework can help you plan disciplined discussions in which students' skills are intentionally targeted for development.
Learners will be awarded an ASCD Certificate worth up to 20 clock hours.

Welcoming ASCD's 2019 Emerging Leaders

ASCD is excited to announce the selection of 25 educators for its 2019 class of Emerging Leaders. The Emerging Leaders program recognizes and prepares young, promising educators to influence education programs, policy, and practice on both the local and national levels.
Educators selected for the Emerging Leaders program have been in the education profession for 5–15 years; demonstrate a passion for learning, teaching, and leading; hold promise as leaders; and are committed to ASCD's mission.
