ASCD Networks Program
Now in its 14th year, the ASCD Networks Program provides a forum for educators and non-educators alike who are passionate about a specific theme related to education. These themes cover a range of topics both traditional and progressive and are practical to the classroom. The networks are facilitated by experts in the field. Many networks are invited to conduct sessions at ASCD's Annual Conference.
ASCD has two networks related to "The Spirit of Education": Religion in Public Education, facilitated by James K. Uphoff from Wright State University (e-mail: jkuphoff@aol.com), and Holistic Education, facilitated by Jack Miller from the University of Toronto (e-mail: jmiller@oise.utoronto.ca). Miller's article on holistic education appears on page 46.
Partners in Health
ASCD has received funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for a four-year project entitled "Partners in Life: A Health Education Initiative."
- Increase awareness of public health issues among middle and high school educators through programs and publications, and
- Develop model partnerships between schools and community-based public health entities to address the public health issues affecting middle and high school learners. These partnerships will be supported through mini-grants administered by ASCD.
Other organizations involved in this project are the Association of Schools of Public Health and the National Science Resources Center.
