Reviewers Needed

ASCD is one of four organizations working with the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) on the review of university leadership programs. Universities submit folios that document their programs, which are then reviewed by teams of reviewers, including principals, district administrators, and university professors. At present, teams meet twice each year to review folios.
ASCD is seeking members who are interested in participating in this process. If you would like to be considered, please call ASCD's Service Center for an application.

Learning First Alliance

ASCD continues to work with the Learning First Alliance (LFA) on a variety of projects and publications, including a booklet on professional development for teaching reading. ASCD also supports the activities of the LFA Professional Practice subgroup, which is charged with identifying exemplary practices in professional development. Through interviews, observations, and questionnaires, the group will determine which actions of legislators, administrators, teachers, and other education stakeholders either support or inhibit the implementation of best practices. For more information about LFA and its member organizations, visit the ASCD Web site.

Electronic News: ASCD's SmartBrief

In August, ASCD launched ASCD's SmartBrief, a free daily electronic summary of education news. ASCD members, colleagues, and others interested in education can view a sample issue by visiting www.smartbrief.com/ascd/ or by going to the ASCD Web site (www.ascd.org), then clicking Education News and ASCD SmartBrief. Schools and school districts are encouraged to notify staff about this service.
