From Cover to Cover

Your March 2021 issue, "Equity in Action," might be the most helpful to my practice that I've seen. … I'm considering purchasing a physical copy for my full faculty as part of their summer reading. Thanks again for your contribution to our field!
Robb Virgin, Principal, Eden Prairie High School, Minnesota
I have had a number of wonderful learning experiences reading EL over the years, but none have brought me to tears like the cover this month. … Thank you for your bold step in putting the issues of our vulnerable students of color and their teachers and school leaders front and center.
Lynda Tredway, Senior Associate for Leadership and Equity Institute for Educational Leadership
Want to put the whole issue on a billboard!
Catherine A. Stickney, Ed.D (@castickney)
[The March 2021 issue of EL] is REQUIRED reading and discussion for ALL educational leaders—custodians, bus drivers, teachers, staff, superintendents, board members, executives, chiefs. The only way out of equity traps is dismantling them together and calling us into our humanity in real time.
Stephanie Hawley (@shawley03)
I should be making dinner for my family, but I'm engrossed in this issue. We CAN do better!

No More Equity Traps

Thankful for this work! ["Beware of Equity Traps and Tropes" by Jamila Dugan] Reflecting on how my current work perpetuates some of these traps and tropes, and grateful for the lens to plan and work differently.

When SEL Isn't Enough

I just read ["Why SEL Isn't Enough"] by Dena Simmons. Let me just say I can't wait for Friday's staff meeting. As a matter of fact, I'm sending it to my principal with a request to include in our weekly bulletin.

Coaching Reflections

As I was thinking about the role of coaching when it comes to real change, I opened my March EL magazine to find "Coaching for Equity Demands Deeper Dialogue." Authors Candice Bocala and RoLesia R. Holman help put words to my thoughts!
Todd Herauf (@TeachinTodd)

It Starts with One Teacher

At Ligon GT Middle Magnet School, in Mr. Bryant's class, I was affirmed and exceled. Today, I presented him with a special thank you [a framed copy of my article, "Relevant Curriculum is Equitable Curriculum"]. In ASCD's EL magazine I share the impact and his example of equity in action and relevant curriculum.
