Summer 2019: High-Powered Teams
An Agenda-Setting Issue
I am a loyal reader of Educational Leadership and of everything ASCD. I wanted you to know that I am leading a retreat for all of my teacher leaders (approximately 30) along with the superintendent's team. The agenda of the day-long retreat is essentially the summer edition of Educational Leadership. The charge of the retreat is to equip these teachers on how to better lead their teams. We even have a few of the authors of the articles of your summer edition joining us through Skype or FaceTime to help us unpack their article and how to apply it to practice! —Justin Cameron, principal, Concord Middle School, Massachusetts
Really thankful that the newest edition of Educational Leadership is all about working with teams in your school. Perfect timing, and so excited about our growing team this school year!
—Eleanor Walker (@ElRoseWalker)
I always love the free summer editions of @ELmagazine, but I'm especially pumped about this one on High-Powered Teams!!
—Alyson Carpenter (@alysoncarp1)
This entire @ELmagazine "High Powered Teams" issue is incredible and would make a great summer read for PLCs and school leadership teams. It's downloadable, too! Thank you for the insights and illuminating a path forward! —Tracy Mayhue (@tmayhueSEL)
When Teams Believe in Themselves
Another great article from this month's @ascd @ELmagazine, "What Drives Collective Efficacy?" "When teams believe and are confident in their abilities to make an impact, they tend to perform better." —Matt Johnston (@MrJ_TDSB)
Outstanding article on collective teacher efficacy. Teams make what's supposed to work actually work in the classroom.

New Columnist Love
What a great piece by Matthew Kay ("Digging Deeper into School Racial Conversations," on the ASCD InService blog). Conversations about race and equity are part of SEL work. Self-awareness is key to recognizing our biases, and social awareness is necessary to have those conversations with our colleagues and peers. —Maria Lantz (@marialantz7)
Agreed. And if you like this, stay tuned: Matthew Kay is now a regular columnist for EL magazine! —Anthony Rebora, Editor in Chief, Educational Leadership (@a_rebora)
Coming in November
Instructional coaching and leadership coaching have become key forms of educator professional development and growth. Our November issue will look at the dynamics of effective coaching and how schools can create the right conditions to support it.
