Betty Nelson is an associate professor of special education and interim chair of the Department of Leadership, Special Education, and Foundations in the School of Education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has taught in residential and public school programs and has been a program supervisor in public schools and at a private research institution. She has taught children within all areas of exceptionality and has taught higher education coursework which spans the entire breadth of the field.
